DSC provides educational, professional, residential, employment and behavioral support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Champaign and Ford counties. RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Family Support Specialist at DSC, you will provide prevention initiative support and resources for families in Champaign County to reduce risk factors and build on strengths. Families enrolled in the program must meet eligibility requirements as outlined on the Baby TALK weighted eligibility form.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, Early Childhood Education, Human and Family Development, Social Work, or related field.
- Experience working with children and families, including teen parents highly preferred.
- Knowledge of typical child development and how biopsychosocial factors influence child development and interactions with caregivers. Knowledge of a promotion, prevention, and strengths-based approach to mental health and family well-being.
- Effective communication, networking, and written skills to create partnerships with families, staff, and collaborating agencies.
- Understand the needs of and ability to work with diverse cultures, children and families with presenting risk factors, and teen populations.
- Bilingual, Spanish speaking preferred
HOURS:
- 40 hours a week
